Public Assisted Housing for the Elderly

Public assisted housing for the elderly offers living options to low-income eligible individuals through local, state and federal government-funded programs. Most of these living options are at the independent living level.

HUD housing is a federal program that helps apartment owners provide reduced rents to low-income tenants. To obtain assistance, you must apply at the facility you would like to move into. Eligibility grants you permission to live in that particular facility only and is not transferable to another residence. HUD pays the difference between what the resident pays and the total rental amount.

Section 8, or the Housing Choice Voucher Program, is a federal housing program which provides housing assistance to low-income renters and homeowners. This assistance comes in the form of rental subsidies, limiting the monthly rent payment of the assistance recipient.

To qualify for a housing voucher, you must meet income restrictions. Go to one of the housing authority offices listed in the upcoming section to enroll.
