Hospice Care
Hospice services are available to persons who no longer benefit from curative treatment and have a life expectancy of six months or less. The focus of hospice is pain and symptom control. Most hospices offer visits from nurses, home health aides, social workers, chaplains and volunteers. Bereavement services are offered to friends and family members of the patient.
Many hospice programs also offer palliative care. Palliative care focuses on comfort care rather than curative care for non-terminal patients.

Hospice Inpatient Facilities
Most skilled nursing care facilities accept hospice patients. Retirement centers and assisted living facilities usually allow their residents to remain in the facility if they have the help of a hospice program and if outside caregiving assistance is being utilized.
