Elder Moving
After living in a home for many years, moving to a smaller apartment, retirement center or assisted living facility can be a difficult process. Often the move is necessary because of a health crisis, and that can make it seem more overwhelming. Relocation consultants can help you decide on and coordinate options that will be the right fit for you. Here are some tips on deciding what to take to your new home:
- Get a floor plan of your new home and measure furniture and items to see what will fit in the new space.
- When downsizing, it is helpful to develop some sort of system to organize where items will go. Tagging items with a mark or using different color tags could be used. Forming sorting areas can also be helpful when downsizing.
If the moving and downsizing process is too overwhelming or not realistic to accomplish on your own, then you will need to find outside help. Moving coordinators can be an option, especially when friends and family are not available.
