Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formally known as the Food Stamp Program, helps low-income individuals to purchase food using EBT cards. The benefit amount is placed on the plastic EBT cards and they can be used like a credit card to buy only food products. They cannot be used for alcohol, pet food, tobacco, paper products or other non-food items. These EBT cards are accepted by most grocery stores and may be used to pay for some Meals on Wheels Services or congregate meals for those 60 years or older.
To be eligible for SNAP benefits, you must meet income eligibility guidelines. Applications are submitted to the Nebraska Department of Health & Human Services . Call 402-323-3900 or apply online at www.accessnebraska.ne.gov.
